Marine Inspection Services

Class-society compliant inspection, NDT and coating QA for commercial vessels, port infrastructure, offshore equipment and marine fabrication - independent of the shipyard, accountable to the owner.

Overview

QMS’ marine inspection capability has been built up over more than 15 years of work on Australia’s most demanding marine programmes - including the Collins Class Submarine sustainment contract that the company was founded to support. Marine Inspection Services packages that capability for owners and operators of commercial shipping, port infrastructure, offshore assets and marine fabrication.

Where our Naval Asset Care programme is targeted at defence and AUKUS-aligned sustainment, Marine Inspection Services covers the broader civilian and dual-use marine market: tugs and workboats, harbour craft, dry-dock support, offshore module fabrication, OSV equipment, port cranes and wharf infrastructure.

QMS is Lloyds-certified for NDT and hull thickness surveys, and our reports are issued in formats accepted by the major class societies (LR, DNV, BV, ABS, ClassNK), the AMSA inspection regime where applicable, and your insurer.

Class-aligned, owner-aligned

Independent marine inspection and NDT for civilian and dual-use assets

Our marine inspectors are independent of the shipyard, accredited by NATA for the test methods we deliver and certified by Lloyds for hull thickness work - so the report you take to your class surveyor is one your surveyor already trusts.

Marine Inspection Services solution delivery

Marine inspection delivery

1

Survey scoping with the owner / surveyor

Pre-survey scoping with the asset owner, class surveyor and (where applicable) flag administration to confirm the inspection plan, the test method matrix, the access plan and the reporting format.

2

Hull thickness surveys

Lloyds-certified ultrasonic thickness measurement on hull plate, longitudinal members, frames and tank boundaries. Reports issued in class-society format with full thickness register.

3

Structural NDT

Magnetic particle, dye penetrant and ultrasonic inspection of weldments, rudders, stern frames, deck fittings, bollards, derricks and lifting appliances - to AS/NZS, ISO and class-society codes.

4

Coating condition surveys

NACE-trained coating inspectors assess the antifouling, anticorrosive and tank lining systems, document blistering / undercutting / mechanical damage, and define the recoat / patch scope.

5

Marine fabrication QC

In-shop and on-vessel weld surveillance, fit-up inspection, NDT and PMI for marine fabrication scopes - newbuild, refit and conversion. See also our Fabrication Quality Control programme.

6

Class-format reporting

Reports issued in the format your class surveyor expects: thickness measurement registers, NDT certificates, coating reports, photographic evidence and sketch overlays - ready to upload to the class portal.
