Coating Inspection

Coating thickness measurement and integrity assessment using eddy current techniques for painted and coated industrial assets.

Overview

Protective coatings are a critical line of defence against corrosion on metallic assets across all industrial sectors. QMS Asset Integrity provides NATA-accredited coating thickness measurement and integrity assessment using high-frequency eddy current techniques.

Accurate coating thickness verification is essential for quality control during coating application, ensuring specified DFT (dry film thickness) targets are achieved, and for in-service assessment to monitor coating degradation over time. Our inspection services cover a wide range of coating systems including paints, epoxies, metallic coatings and specialty protective linings.

Combined with our full suite of NDT and visual inspection capabilities, we offer a complete corrosion management inspection package - from substrate condition assessment through coating application monitoring to in-service integrity verification.

Coating Inspection Capability

Our technicians pair practical site experience with NATA-accredited processes, giving clients clear inspection data, traceable reporting and confidence in every result.

Methodology

Eddy current (electromagnetic) coating thickness gauges generate a high-frequency electromagnetic field from the probe. When placed on a coated surface, the probe measures the standoff distance between the probe face and the conductive substrate - this distance corresponds to the coating thickness.

Measurements are taken at specified intervals across the coated surface to build a representative DFT profile. Results are compared against the coating specification requirements and recorded in a structured report.

Advantages
