Fabrication Quality Control

Independent third-party fabrication QC for new-build pressure equipment, structural steel, defence supply and pipeline construction - WPS/PQR review, weld surveillance, NDT, mechanical testing and final hand-over documentation.

Overview

The cheapest defect to fix is the one caught at the welding bay. The most expensive is the one caught after hydrotest, when the unit is dressed, insulated and on the way to site. QMS Fabrication Quality Control sits inside the fabricator’s shop on your behalf, walks the welds in real time and stops defective work before it gets covered.

Engagements range from a single Welding Inspector embedded into a defence supply contract through to a full multi-discipline ITP coverage team running WPS/PQR review, joint fit-up sign-off, root and cap visual, in-process NDT, mechanical testing of production test plates, PMI, dimensional check, hydrotest witness and final hand-over documentation.

QMS is independent of every fabricator we inspect. Our reports go directly to the asset owner, the principal contractor or the certifying authority - not to the fabricator’s QA shelf - which is exactly what your insurers, your class society and your regulator want to see in the project pack.

Independent oversight

A QC package built around your ITP, not a generic checklist

We draft (or review) the Inspection & Test Plan with you, agree the hold and witness points with the fabricator, then run those points to the standard the project demands - AS/NZS 3992, AS/NZS 1554, AS 4458, ISO 3834, NAVSEA 271 or your nominated client spec.

Fabrication Quality Control solution delivery

Fabrication QC delivery model

1

WPS / PQR / WPQ review

Pre-fabrication review of all welding documentation - procedure specifications, qualification records, welder qualifications - against the contract specification and the applicable standard.

2

Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) drafting

Build the ITP with the asset owner, set hold and witness points across material receipt, fit-up, root, fill, cap, NDT, hydrotest and final dimensional inspection.

3

Material verification + PMI

Material receipt inspection against MTRs, plus on-site Positive Material Identification (PMI) of incoming plate, fittings and consumables to lock down material grade traceability.

4

In-process welding surveillance

Joint fit-up, preheat verification, run-by-run visual, parameter check (current/voltage/travel speed), interpass temperature monitoring and inter-run cleaning surveillance.

5

NDT and destructive testing

NATA-accredited UT, PAUT, RT, MT, PT and VT to the project NDT plan, plus mechanical destructive testing of production test plates (Charpy, tensile, hardness, bend, macro).

6

Hydrotest and final inspection

Hydrotest witnessing, dimensional inspection (AS 4458 / project spec), coating QA, name-plate verification and packaging inspection prior to release.

7

Manufacturer Data Report (MDR)

Compilation of the final hand-over MDR - drawings, MTRs, weld map, NDT certificates, PWHT charts, mechanical test results, hydrotest cert, PMI report, NCRs and as-built data.

What an independent QMS QC team brings

check_circle Reports to the owner / principal, not to the fabricator
check_circle WPS/PQR review against AS/NZS, ASME and NAVSEA codes
check_circle NATA-accredited NDT and mechanical testing - one accreditation across the whole project
check_circle CSWIP / IWI / PCN qualified Welding Inspectors on every job
check_circle Material PMI to lock in grade traceability before the welds get made
check_circle Production test plate destructive testing with sub-day turnaround from our Osborne workshop
check_circle Hydrotest, dimensional and packaging inspection at hand-over
check_circle Manufacturer Data Report (MDR) compilation ready for your project pack
